Are you thinking about exploring Washington this summer? The state packs a lot into a few short months, so here are four destinations that belong on your summer bucket list, whether you’re planning a full trip or just a weekend to get out of the house.
1. Mount Rainier National Park. Summer is one of the best times to go because the wildflowers are in full bloom, entire hillsides covered in color, with the mountain towering behind them. Take the drive into Paradise and hike the Skyline Trail, stop at Myrtle Falls for photos, and soak in some of the most breathtaking views in the state. If you’re lucky, you’ll probably spot some wildlife along the way.
2. The San Juan Islands. Catch a ferry out of Anacortes and spend the day in Friday Harbor. You can go whale watching, rent a kayak, or wander the local shops and restaurants. Summer is prime time for spotting orcas, and the island scenery is hard to beat.
3. Leavenworth. If you’re after something a little different, this Bavarian-style mountain town makes you feel like you stepped into Europe. Spend the day shopping, relax on the outdoor patios, and taste some of the best local wines around. Between the mountain views, the small-town charm, and some of the best summer events in the state, it’s easy to see why it’s one of Washington’s most popular spots.
4. The Washington coast. Try Long Beach, Ocean Shores, or Pacific Beach, where you can hit the sand, eat fresh seafood, fly a kite, or gather around a beach bonfire. It’s a great place to slow down, unwind, and enjoy everything a Washington summer has to offer.
So tell me, what’s your favorite? Drop it in the comments. And if this is the summer you’re also thinking about a move, whether that’s buying, selling, or just weighing your options, I’m always happy to talk it through.
