Where you live matters, but let’s be honest, so does where you eat. I asked some locals around Thurston County for their favorite taco spots, and the list they came back with covers Lacey, Tumwater, and downtown Olympia. Whether you’ve been here for years or you’re just starting to explore the area, these are the places worth knowing about.

Huicholitos II in Lacey. If you know, you know. Authentic flavors, bold spices, and the kind of food that makes you a regular after one visit. This is the first stop on the list for a reason.

Taquería El Dorado in Tumwater. These are the tacos that keep people coming back every week. Taqueria El Dorado has built a loyal following in Tumwater, and it’s easy to see why once you’ve tried it.

El Taco Amigo in Lacey. A local favorite that’s quick, delicious, and always hits the spot. El Taco Amigo is one of those places that does what it does really well without overcomplicating it.

Tacos California and Valentina’s Lounge in downtown Olympia. If you’re in downtown Olympia, you’ve got options. Both of these spots are worth checking out, especially if you’re walking around downtown and looking for something good.

Hector’s Tacos for breakfast tacos. Tacos before noon are never a bad idea. Hector’s is the spot for morning tacos, and once you’ve had them, you’ll wonder why you weren’t eating breakfast tacos all along.

Mextiza for empanadas. If you want something a little different, Mextiza serves authentic, delicious empanadas that are worth a detour. They’re not tacos, but it absolutely belongs on this list.

Mayan Porto Vallarta (Mayan Family Mexican Restaurant) and The Port Taco Truck + Cantina in Lacey. If you’re looking for a full menu beyond just tacos, both of these are great options for the entire family. Mayan Porto Vallarta is a local staple, and The Port Taco Truck + Cantina rounds out Lacey’s lineup with even more variety.
