Is your home ready for spring in the Pacific Northwest? After months of rain, wind, and damp weather, small issues can quietly build up around your home. The good news is that a simple spring maintenance checklist can help you catch problems early and avoid expensive repairs later.

Here are maintenance tips I recommend you do this spring.

1. Inspect your roof and gutters. The Pacific Northwest is known for long months of rain and strong winds. Because of this, your roof and gutters take a lot of wear during the winter. Spring is the perfect time to inspect your roof for loose or missing shingles and any signs of leaks.

Even a small problem can turn into water damage if left unchecked. You should also clean out your gutters and make sure water flows away from your home. Clogged gutters are one of the biggest causes of water damage because they allow water to overflow and collect near your foundation.

Check for moisture and mold. Moisture is a common issue in the Pacific Northwest, so it is important to check your home for signs of mold or water damage. Start by looking under sinks, around windows, in bathrooms, and inside crawl spaces. These areas tend to trap moisture and can quickly grow mold if left unchecked. Catching these problems early can save you thousands of dollars in repairs and help keep your home healthy and safe for your family.

Service your heating and cooling system. Spring is also a great time to prepare your heating and cooling system for the warmer months ahead. Changing your air filters and making sure your system is running properly can improve air quality and help reduce your energy bills. Clean air and a well-working system will keep your home comfortable all year long.

Refresh the exterior of your home. After a wet winter, the outside of your home may need some attention. Pressure washing siding, walkways, and decks can remove dirt, moss, and slippery buildup. This not only makes your home look better but also helps prevent long-term surface damage. A quick refresh outside can boost curb appeal and keep your property safer.

Inspect doors, windows, and drainage. Finally, check your windows and doors for worn seals or cracked caulk. Fixing these small gaps helps keep moisture out of your home. It is also important to look at the grading around your property. Water should always flow away from your home’s foundation, not toward it. Good drainage protects your foundation and prevents long-term structural problems.
